Cancer, Heart Attack, and Stoke
What are the stats?
Cancer is the second most common cause of death. 1 out of every 4 deaths. About 77% of all cancers are diagnosed in people who are 55 or older. Statistically 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will develop cancer during their lifetimes.
Heart Attack is the number one cause of death for both men and women in the United States.
According to the most recent data from the American Heart Association and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 805,000 people in the United States experience a heart attack each year. This figure includes about 605,000 first-time heart attacks and 200,000 recurrent attacks.
This statistic has remained relatively consistent over recent years, and specific data for 2024 has not yet been published. Therefore, the annual incidence of heart attacks in the U.S. is estimated to be around 800,000.
Notably, about 1 in 5 heart attacks are "silent", meaning they occur without noticeable symptoms but still cause damage to the heart muscle.
The average age at the first heart attack is approximately 65.6 years for men and 72.0 years for women.
According to the American Heart Association's 2024 Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics Update, approximately 795,000 people in the United States experience a stroke each year. This figure encompasses both first-time and recurrent strokes. Stroke is the 3rd leading cause of death in women, the 5th leading in men, and among the top 10 for children. Stroke reduces mobility in more than half of stroke survivors 65 and older.
All these statistics underscore the importance of heart health awareness and proactive management of risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, obesity, and physical inactivity.
